How large can potted Salvia plants grow? I'm curious ...
I have a plant that is 25 months old in a 24" diameter plastic pot. I call him "Calvin" and he's SUCH a dear plant to me. I love him and talk to him every day. Here's another view of us and a few of the 'baby plants' sheltering under him: Is this big? I thought he had a lot of growing to do yet! He is only 6 feet tall and I understand 10 feet is possible! Until somebody posts a picture of a larger plant I'm going to start calling him "The largest Salvia divinorum plant in captivity". And if you want to see his 'baby pictures' of when he was 'just a little stick' go here: My Little Garden. How large have YOUR potted Salvia plants gotten? -------------------- |

I Love your salvia tree
QUOTE(Sea Mac @ May 22 2007, 19:34) How large can potted Salvia plants grow? I'm curious ... This plant had a little more than 2 meters: But the pot was much too large and filled with slimy soil. Now I have many 2m-Plants in 12cm-pots. The solution are only soilless mixtures with hydroponics. |

The plastic stake that came in his mothers pot said "Six to Ten feet tall". and he is only 6 feet tall. I think he will grow bigger until his roots fill up the pot he is in now then maybe he will slow down or stop. Bigger maybe 8 feet tall or even Ten. We will see, won't we. HOGIE! You had a NICE Sized TREE! Perhaps the biggest that ever grew in Germany! I am VERY Impressed! Der Beitrag wurde bearbeitet von Sea Mac am May 23 2007, 01:58 Uhr. -------------------- |

So, how much bigger will these dozen trees get then?
They are on the north side of the building! Will they get as big as the tree on the east side of the building? -------------------- |

Why do you ask us? You are the good Salvia grower!^^
I think that depens on the size of the pot and the nutrients in it... How old is this plant, and how big is it? Your plants are huge, how many kilos of leafs can you pick in a year? -------------------- |

@ dARK_gRIFFON, you know, in America every thing is bigger. Sea Mac only want to make us jealous. I love your last Picture. The color and the contrast between the light and the shadow are wonderful. I`m sure that you love your plants very much because nobody writes those JPG comments for unimportant pictures. I have nice growing weather.
I never pick leaves. I wouldn't want something to come along and pick a part off of ME so I never like to do this to other creatures. (I'm Crazy). I wait until the plant is done with it and throws it away. I seldom bother to pick up the leaves from the Ground anymore. Miracle-Gro and LOTS of Love! This Plant is 25 months old and 6 feet tall ... ________________________________________________________________________________ I couldn't trust my eyes so today I took a Tape measure out to measure a 4 month old 'Baby Plant'. I've repotted this Plant this evening and She is named "Sally" now ... Before I repotted Sally she measured 26" (66 cm) tall (she was root bound, in an 8" pot, poor baby): But what astonished me SO Much was the SIZE of her Leaves! I measured a leaf at 12" (30 cm) from stem to end ... Salvia's Leaves CAN reach a Foot long (Rarely)! Some sort of Record setting leaf there ... Hmm, I've had a few leaves that size... some were even a lot larger - i usually measure the leaves not from the stem but from where the point were the actual leaf beginns ... and measuring like that i've had leaves with 32 to 36 cm The size of that plant (calvin?) is a record Oo *admire* I'm totally dislike temperatures over 25°C, else I'd move to california, when i'm a bit older. Maybe washington/Oregon then... we'll see keep that one growing and post more pics Der Beitrag wurde bearbeitet von siamus kikuemon am May 25 2007, 19:51 Uhr. -------------------- Abusus non tollit usum, sed confirmat substantiam. Everytime I'm singing the song "Fallen leaves" bye Billie Talent I think about your way of earning SAlly. Many users here do it the same way. Yes. I KNOW everyone's leaves must be bigger that those. That 26 inch (66 cm) plant was root bound in an 8 inch pot when those pictures were taken. It's been re-potted since then and will grow again now. The plant needs leaves to make more of the parts of the plant. The plant usually only tosses away leaves after the branch sprouting out above it has started growing out and has small leaves on it. If you take a leaf off before the Plant is done with it then you are robbing your plant of growing just that little bit faster that it would have grown if you had left it alone. The plant will throw it away when it is done with it: then it is safe to desire to smoke/chew it. I haven't smoked Salvia in a long time now. I'm almost immune to it at this point.
